I didn't see .coop in the original list of domains, but when I search it looks like a viable extension. However, GoDaddy didn't recognize it when I tried to purchase it...?
We are starting a cooperative and I thought this might be a better domain extension for the business, instead of .org.
Any help would be appreciated.

@shannon_hoopla if the domain extension is not too important, you should go with a .org
However, if you really need a .coop, you should get it from another registrar and manage domain from their side and hosting from this side.
Also, note that .coop needs a verification process:
As the .coop domain is reserved exclusively for co-operatives and cooperative organizations, once you’ve applied for the domain, we’ll be in touch to confirm your organisation is eligible and take you through the verification process.
Find out more about eligibility and the verification process.
Info from: www.coop/
Hope it helps!
