Pointing nameserver domain to vps ip not work

I've set up a new VPS and have a number of domains that I'd like to assign, but I don't want all of them on the same IP address.  The VPS package I purchased has 3 different IP addresses.

I currently have a couple domains set up and working e.g.:

  • domain1.com -> 1.1.1.1 (main IP address of the server)
  • domain2.com -> 1.1.1.1 (main IP address of the server)

I've already requested a second IP address (1.1.1.2) and assigned it to the VPS.

How do I assign domain2.com to resolve to IP address 1.1.1.2 on the same VPS package?

I've tried going to the main DNS record, and changing the A record and CNAME to 1.1.1.2, and in the VPS also changing the account to 1.1.1.2, and the DNS Zone to 1.1.1.2 for the domain2.com, but I kept getting a cpanel page not found.  So I changed the main DNS on the domain back to 1.1.1.1 and deleted the account and DNS zone and recreated.  They defaulted back to 1.1.1.1, and it works.

Ideally, though, I don't want domain1.com and domain2.com on the same IP address.  I have about 80 domains, and eventually I want to set them up to share the two additional IP addresses, and not have anything else on 1.1.1.1, e.g.:

  • domain1.com -> 1.1.1.1
  • domain2.com -> 1.1.1.2
  • domain3.com -> 1.1.1.2
  • domain4.com -> 1.1.1.2
  • domain5.com -> 1.1.1.2
  • domain6.com -> 1.1.1.2
  • domain7.com -> 1.1.1.3
  • ...
  • domain80.com -> 1.1.1.3

How can I best do this?
