Ajax Admin 500 Error

I am updating this WP website via the Avada theme and WooCommerce:

http://thesuperseal.com/

Now, when updating products, when I try to change Variations, e.g. “Create variations from all attributes”, the system goes into a never-ending wait. All products.

I am also having a problem when after updating a product, instead of returning to the product, there is only a blank screen (white screen of death), and I have to reload the page.

NB. Internet speed is OK and no problems with anything else. I have disabled/enabled all plugins and cleared the cache, still same problems.

I have been in touch with Avada Support and they advise:

“I do see there is a 500 error in the Ajax, Screenshot here —> http://i.imgur.com/4YEP77G.png

The admin ajax error shows on the default theme of WordPress too, Video here —–> https://www.dropbox.com/s/q0de06vgkrg2u3a/2017-08-28_20-12-13.mp4?dl=0

It appears there is an issue with the admin ajax.”

In the WP Woocommerce Forum, I got these replies:

"Hi. It seems that your webserver is choking. Look here: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/problems-with-large-amounts-of-data-not-saving-variations-rate...

On that page it says:

"If you notice product variations, tax rates and other large data sets not saving, Suhosin (a security module in PHP) may be preventing the POST data from being saved. This issue can also be caused by servers with version PHP 5.3.9+ and servers running mod_security."

And:

"It is recommended however to consult your hosting providers, or raise a ticket with them for assistance."

I have no idea about ajax, or editing php.ini, setting the suhosin settings via .htaccess, so any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Re: Ajax Admin 500 Error

Sounds like a pretty frustrating issue, @JimmySchu. I'm not sure what you'll need to do to have this addressed, but I did want to relay a few things:

  • You can make changes to your PHP environment by using a .user.ini file on cPanel. If you're not sure how to use such a file, a simple online search should help you get started. You can put a .user.ini file in the root directory of your account or any directory you need to make changes in.
  • With any Linux account, you should have the ability to update some Apache settings by using a .htaccess file. Similar to above, searching online should give you more information about this. You can also add a  .htaccess file to any directory.
  • Our hosting servers do use mod_security.

As was suggested on the Woo Commerce forum, you should probably reach out to our hosting support if you have concerns about compatibility issues with mod_security. We do not currently have a ticket system for you to submit this type of request. You can reach support at any of the numbers listed here. If you don't wish to call, you can reach out to our chat support team. They are available Monday - Friday, 5 am to 6 pm (MST) on the United States - English version of our Help page.

Re: Ajax Admin 500 Error

Thank you.

For some reason, re-loading WordPress appears to have resolved the problem.
