Moving my wordpress site to Godaddy

Hello,

I have this website built on Wordpress that has been taking up one of my virtual servers for quite some time, thinking to move it to Godaddy to save a bit on costs and time spent with maintenance.

I am concerned about a couple things:

- has anyone had any experience hosting WP sites on Godaddy? is it worth moving from a dedicated virtual server to Godaddy's WP hosting?

- do they add any advertising to the site?

- are there any other themes I  can use? Right now I have a pretty old theme, kind of simple, would like to add a little bit of color to it, perhaps some images. My current theme is here: http://www.sportsbooksoft.com

- is there a way to disable automatic updates for WP and plugins? I don't use any plugins that need frequent updating, this is just a presentation site basically, and I don't want to discover after some 6-12-18 months that my site has been broken for ages because WP released some update which I didn't needed anyway

Would very much appreciate any thoughts or ideas.

Thank you all and have a nice week-end!

@AlexC89 I have hosted my WP sites on Godaddy for years without any issues, no ads are added. You may want to look into some free or premium themes for your site. There are thousands of them online. I believe you can disable automatic updates but not 100% sure. Typically websites become broken for the exact opposite, the websites weren't updated and suffered a malicious injection, etc. Typically hosts like to have the sites automatically updated because their servers could be at risk if the site was hacked, injected with malware, etc.

Thank you for sharing Justin.

So basically I can install any theme I want into WP?

WP itself seems to be quite safe since v2-3 and on, it's the plugins and heavy themes that may be vulnerable... since I don't use any I figure I'm safe to disable updates?

@AlexC89 Yes, you can install any wordpress theme that you'd like. I can't say that you'll be safe, websites and wordpress have issues all the time, but I think you'd be fine to do that.
